As part of my MFAID Thesis I am investigating the methods and practices of representation specifically related to Interior Design Practice. A main focus will be on lighting and how this shapes our understanding of spaces. A series of investigations using sketches, hand drafting, CAD drafting and modeling, photography, physical modeling, 2D printing, 3D modeling, and real-time rendering will be used to compare and contrast representation practices.
This thesis will investigate proximity, orientation, and the gravity of architecture in the design and realization of interior spaces. Analyzing the spatiality of virtual design – particularly how we currently navigate digital space. I hope to demonstrate how it might inform the design of corporeal space in both its process and final representation.
